Sex, Drugs and Criminality – Mammalian Diving Reflex

Image description:  Three people sit on multi-coloured wooded chairs at the front of the stage. The person on the left side is a man wearing a blue and green striped shirt, holding a sign that says “I have.” The person in the middle is wearing a multi-coloured shirt and shoes, and is also holding a sign which says “I have not”, which blocks most of their face. The person on the right side, is a person in drag, wearing a bright, multi-coloured dress and sparkly shoes, with a bright yellow wig and pink scarf on their head, holding a sign that says “I have.” Behind these three people is a teenager sitting on a higher seat to their left; they are smiling and speaking into a microphone on a stand.

Sex, Drugs and Criminality collides Vancouver teenagers with the most famous and courageous artists in the world. The teens are invited to ask the artists any questions they want; the artists are invited to refuse any questions they want. The two groups reach across the yawning and gaping intergenerational chasm, to see if they can connect even just the tips of their fingers and, together, have a very, very, very frank discussion about three of the most confusing topics in the universe: sex, drugs and criminality. Warning: mature themes and audience participation…

Created by Mammalian Diving Reflex, Sex, Drugs and Criminality has been presented in Germany (Ruhrtriennale), Italy (Milano Triennale Teatro dell'Arte & ZONA K), the UK (The Lowry), Finland (ANTI Festival), Latvia (Homo Novus) and Portugal (Teatromosca).

This presentation of Sex, Drugs and Criminality at HOLD ON LET GO is the North American premiere of this socially-engaged, joyful performance.
